You are installing a 5 piece kit for the Olympus 35 SP
This light seal kit includes,
bottom channel seal, camera body – 1 x 1mm
top channel seal, back cover – 1 x 1mm
latch plate seal, back cover – 1 x 2mm
latch end seal, back cover, under latch plate seal – 1 x 2mm
hinge seal, camera body – 1 x 1mm
Installation Tips
First, I recommend you lay out the seals exactly as pictured. Now placement will be more obvious.
The SP seal placement is effective yet quite a bit different from other 35mm rangefinders.
Note the back cover channel seal shorter and wider of the two longer foam pieces. Placement starts at the hinge end upper channel and is placed until used up.
No seal is placed in the lower channel on the back cover.
Next take the other long seal, also starting at the hinge end, carefully place the seal in lower channel place working towards the latch end until it is used up.
No seal is placed in the body casting’s upper channel.
The remaining seals are more straight forward,
- place the hinge seal, centered between the upper/lower channels, hinge end of the body
- one of the thick seals is placed and centered on the latch plate
- the widest of the thick seals is placed directly under the latch plate as shown in the image below.
The most important and time consuming work is removing the old seals. Focus on clean, clean, clean.
Clean the old residue from the door channels, mirror cushion area, door hinge area and anywhere else you are replacing the seals.
The finest adhesive in the world will not adhere to that sticky, gooey residue that was once a quality light seal.
Proper installation will give you thousands of light tight exposures.
