Konica S II Light Seal Basic Installation Guidelines
My sample camera is excellent condition for a camera over 57 years old
The installation of this kit is straightforward as it is only a 3 piece kit.
I must say that you do not need to replace the hinge seal. Many of these cameras from the 1950’s and 60’s use a special material that we do not see wear out. This material can look pretty worn and “ratty” but actually is in about the same condition as when new. We recommend replacing only if missing or damaged.
If you really must replace the door hinge seal, you will need to remove back cover. Three slotted flat head countersunk screws that retain the cover are located just under the front covering hinge side. I was really surprised how supple and easy it was to just carefully lift up the covering enough to remove the screws, on this 57-year-old camera
The most important and time-consuming work is removing the old seals. Focus on clean, clean, clean. Clean the old residue from the door channels, mirror cushion area, door hinge area and anywhere else you are replacing the seals. The finest adhesive in the world will not adhere to that sticky, gooey residue that was once a quality light seal. Proper installation will give you thousands of light tight exposures.
